Elodie Florence

BIO

As an African-born, Middle Eastern-raised, French resident who is now signed to a Los Angeles-based music label, Paris-based vocalist Elodie is a vibrant new artist with a well-stamped musical passport.

Elodie speaks and vocalizes in French, Spanish and Ewondo, the dialect of her native Cameroon. But she says that her favorite language to sing in is English. “My sister sang in a gospel choir, my big brother was doing rap music, and my mom and dad were into old school soul and blues.”

While the first decade of her childhood was spent in her homeland, when her father was offered a job in Saudi Arabia the family relocated. “It was a new system, a new everything, and an amazing mix of cultures,” she remembers. “I discovered Arabic music, and I made friends from Lebanon, France, Tunisia and Egypt. It was a total melting pot.”

At 18, she moved to France, where unlike in strict Saudi Arabia, she was amazed to see women driving cars and strolling the avenues without male escorts. She studied voice, and absorbed the French chanteuse flavors, a legacy of Edith Piaf and Charles Aznavour, to expand her vocal style.

Encouraged by her brother, she began writing songs, and created a video channel to post music under the @b__floo identity on Instagram and YouTube. Half a world away, in Los Angeles, producer Edward “E-Dub” Rios -- well versed as a creative advocate for artists who don’t fit conventional molds -- watched a homemade video and was impressed with her artistry.

Subsequently, Elodie is now even more intercontinental, as the first European signee to Silent Giant, the Los Angeles-based record label that champions a diverse roster encompassing Latin Hip-Hop, Regional Mexican, and classic Chicano soul artists.

Upbeat, curious and adventurous, Elodie Florence is an ambassador of a musical language that encompasses R&B, pop and reggae soul. Looking toward the future, her destiny is to incorporate these diverse influences as her musical signature. With a supple, evocative voice, and a luminous upbeat positivity, she transcends borders with a global harmony that truly speaks louder than words.
