One of the original voices of the Latin Hip Hop movement is back with stories of a compelling voyage to the underground roots where it all began! Ese Daz, a founding member of Spanish Fly, Latin hip-hop's early pioneers in the Chicano rap game, has been circulating in the underground music scene for over a decade and is set to release his solo debut album “The Foolish Loco Youngster” in early ’08.
Respected by his peers and loved by his fans, Ese Daz is once again revolutionizing Latin Hip Hop with an album filled with gripping stories told through baiting lyrics and addictive beats. Executive produced by E-Dub (Pocos Pero Locos, Down aka Kilo, Slow Pain) the album showcases Ese Daz’s rhyming flow and unparalleled talent. “I’ll always remember the feeling I got listening to Spanish Fly’s first album,” says E-Dub “They were reporting, in the same language we spoke at home, everything that was happening in the streets at that time.”
In 1989 when Spanish Fly hit the scene with the singles “Eighteen With a Bullet” and “O.G. Lowrider” it was the beginning of a revolution, by 1991 when their first album “Trust No Man” came out, sales surpassed 250,000 units, excluding sales through non-traditional outlets. It was indeed that kind of response that propelled Ese Daz to record “The Foolish Loco Youngster” “I feel like I was there in the beginning but at the same time I feel like I am barley getting started. This is a new beginning” states Ese Daz.
Born David Arellano Zamora, Ese Daz credits his family as being instrumental in his decision to make music a career. “Music was always important in our home” he says, “I grew up singing mariachi and cumbia but also loved NWA, break dancing, pop lockin, R&B and Hip Hop in general.” His mother strongly supported him and although at first he sang as a way of entertainment, he quickly realized he had a talent “and started rapping about our own neighborhood from a Chicano point of view”. Growing up in a barrio and seeing all the things happening around gave him the incentive not only to include that in his lyrics, but to become an example to his peers by staying in school whilst simultaneously amassing success in the entertainment world.
Undoubtedly, 2008 will be a busy year for Daz, but he’s ready to take the stage again and keep inspiring those around him: "I want people to know if I can do it, if I could change my life around from the barrio to a master degree so can you, my music is deep and everyone can take something from it."
