As a product of the early rap years Kilo was given the name "Down" by his homies for being just that "down".

Born in Oxnard, CA as Juan Martinez he grew up in a poor family who worked long hours merely to survive.

It didn't take long for young Down to realize he wanted to change the dynamic. After hearing the true life stories told in rap lyrics by NWA, Down started rapping his stories at age 13. He was fascinated with the art of rhyming that made it possible for him to encompass fragments of his life into stories an entire Latino culture could understand because they also lived it.

He rapped for the first time in his friend's homemade garage studio. That friend was Edward Rios later to be known as E-Dub, the acclaimed producer of "Pocos Pero Locos" radio show and CEO of Silent Giant Entertainment. What started as an underground beat jacking and freestyles turned into one of the most legendary albums on the streets ever- "California Cowboys".

In it, Down featured fellow friend rappers Snoop Dogg, Daz Dillinger, Mc Ren and Sugar Free. The album, then released on Down's own label Kilo Gram Music Group, garnered him street credibility and the respect of his peers. Allowing him to work with many others like Cypress Hill, MC Eight, Kokane, and Tha East Sidaz. In 2007, Down joined forces with long time friend, E-Dub of Silent Giant Entertainment to launch the next chapter of Down's career, the album "Definition of an Ese".

The album dropped on May 22, and a phenomenon was born thanks to the lead single “Lean Like A Cholo”. The video developed a cult-like following via YouTube and since, the “Lean Like A Cholo” videos have collected over 14 million views. Gold single sales figures, over 445 million in radio audience, #8 ranking on Yahoo’s “Songs of the Summer” and being included as one of Vibe Magazines “America’s Next Top MC’s” (December 2007) are a few of the milestones that Down has reached in the past 9 months.

2008 presents Down a clean sheet, to continue his penning of the “Definition of an Ese”.
